Cookie Policy

What we store on your device, why, and how to change your mind at any time.

Last updated: 29 October 2026

In short: the site works without any cookies you have to approve. Analytics cookies from Google are set only if you click “Accept all”, or switch Analytics on under “Manage preferences”. If you click “Reject all”, nothing is sent to Google.

What we use

NameSet byPurposeLifetimeType
cc_cookie This site Remembers your cookie choice so we don’t ask again on every visit. 6 months Necessary
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes one browser from another so visits can be counted. 2 years Analytics, needs consent
_ga_3CGBGMYXRM Google Analytics Keeps track of the current visit (session). 2 years Analytics, needs consent

The calculator itself sets no cookies and does not recognise you when you come back. The only cookie from this site is cc_cookie, and it is created only after you make a choice in the cookie banner. It exists so that we don’t ask you again on every visit, and its 6-month lifetime follows common practice for consent choices.

Browser storage (not cookies). If you use the language switch, build a garment on the Home page or use the optional save features, your browser can keep up to five items in its local storage: honesttag.lang (your language choice), honesttag.handoff (the garment you built on the Home page, so the Full Breakdown can show it), tca.scenarios (scenarios you choose to save), and honesttag.lca.v2 (changes you make on the Methodology page). If you use the wardrobe, honesttag.wardrobe keeps the garments you added to it. They stay on your device, are never sent to us or to anyone else, and are used only so that your own work is still there next time. You can remove them by deleting your browser’s site data.

Photo reading. When the photo button on the “Read your tag” tab is available and you choose a photo, the picture is shrunk in your browser (camera metadata such as location is dropped) and sent to a small reader service we run on Cloudflare, which passes it once to an AI service (Anthropic) that transcribes the label text. The text comes back to your browser. We do not store the photo or the text, and we do not use it to train anything; our reader keeps only a counter per IP address, for one hour, to limit abuse. Cloudflare and Anthropic can see your IP address and the photo while handling the request, under their own terms. Photograph only the label, not people or documents. You can always type the label instead.

What Google Analytics measures

If you accept analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to see which garments, fibres, origins and freight modes people pick, and how often the Copy and Print buttons are used, so we can improve the site. We never receive anything you type, such as a custom weight or city.
